Swasthya Path

Can you imagine being rejected and separated from your family due to a treatable illness?

In India, millions of people suffer from treatable diseases as common as psoriasis. The worst thing is not the symptoms, but the social stigma they cause.

More than a third of those affected by these diseases lose their place at work or at school. They become invisible, excluded from their own community.

And they face barriers that prevent them from accessing quality medical care:

LACK OF INFRAESTRUCTURE

Local medical facilities lack the necessary resources to provide decent service.

FINANCIAL RESOURCES

Medical consultations, medications and transportation costs are unaffordable for many families.

LONG DISTANCES

31% of the rural population has to travel more than 30 km to receive medical care.

Behind these figures, there are real people with stories that deserve to be told.

DRIVER

He leads the MMU through the districts of Pindra, Kashi Vidyapeeth, Chirigaon, Baragaon and Araziline. Since 2022, they have covered more than 80 villages, breaking down distances between health centers and patients.

DOCTOR

The doctors are responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients. To date, they have provided more than 70,000 medical consultations and more than 400 home consultations, so that no one is left behind.

NURSE

In addition to medical consultations, they also spend time educating the communities on disease prevention, with information sessions on personal hygiene or healthy eating and periodic check-ups by specialty.

LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

At the MMU laboratory, they analyze patients' biological samples to further deepen the diagnosis and provide accurate treatment. They have already performed more than 5,000 blood tests for disease prevention.

PHARMACIST

Each MMU has a pharmacy service to alleviate the financial burden of ongoing treatment. As a result, beneficiary families have reduced their health-related expenses by 71%.

Thanks to the dedication and effort of these professionals, thousands of people have access to quality medical care.

To transform their lives and the lives of their families

Swasthya Path is a collaboration between ROADIS and The Hans Foundation. Together, they saw the need to bring medical services closer to the rural populations of Varanasi.

Learn more...

¿Por qué Varanasi?

Why Varanasi? Because it is one of the most important cities in India, with a population of nearly 2 million inhabitants.

The medical units circulate in the surrounding rural areas, very large localities with scarce resources.

In the wake of this project, other initiatives have emerged to make healthcare no longer a luxury for the rural localities of Varanasi.

FEMININE HYGIENE EDUCATION FOR ADOLESCENTS

Most of the patients treated by the mobile units are women, who often face greater barriers to accessing medical care. Thanks to the mobile units, many women are now able to receive regular treatment and preventive consultations, which has significantly improved their health and well-being.

SUPPORT FOR THE ELDERLY AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

These groups often encounter additional difficulties in accessing medical care. The mobile units not only provide medical services in their homes, but also educate communities about the importance of inclusion and support for these individuals. This has led to a better quality of life for many of these communities.

RAISING HEALTH AWARENESS

The project has also conducted 136 awareness sessions on special public health days, engaging 4,179 people. These sessions have helped educate the population about disease prevention, the importance of hygiene and other crucial health-related topics.

HEALTH CHECK-UPS ON SPECIAL DATES

The medicalized ambulances not only respond to emergencies, but also perform preventive medical check-ups, such as eye examinations for truck drivers, helping to detect health problems and providing care in remote areas.
